Although no new contract talks have been scheduled between Safeway Canada and its unionized employees in Dryden, Kenora and Fort Frances, a company spokesperson says the two are willing to work things out.
Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union recently voted in favour of strike action.
No strike date has yet been set.
Meantime, Safeway says it is prepared to close its three Thunder Bay stores unless workers in that city approve a final contract offer in another vote.
Safeway adds the Thunder Bay impasse has no bearing on negotiations at its other Northwest stores.
