Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued

1:00 PM Tues July 4, 2017

Just when we were enjoying a sunny day – Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for much of the area.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Thunderstorms are occurring over southern Manitoba and moving eastward into our region this afternoon. At 1:00 pm, Doppler Radar at CKDR.NET shows a line of thunderstorms sweeping into the Kenora area.

Environment Canada says these storms have the potential to become severe until late this evening. Main threats include strong wind gusts to 90 km/h, large hail of 2 to 3 cm, and torrential rainfall.

Thunderstorms will eventually weaken overnight.

The area covered includes Dryden, Red Lake, Ear Falls, Kenora, Sioux Lookout, Fort Frances and Ignace. The City of Winnipeg is also including in the warning.
