The Municipality of Sioux Lookout wants to ensure its ready to deal with an emergency.
A mock exercise will be held in the coming days, although the exact day is being kept under wraps.
Manager of Emergency Services Rob Favot says with train derailments becoming a concern in Canada, they will be working with the Canadian National Railway and Dangerous Goods Office on the field exercise.
Favot says they will also work on an evacuation plan and who will be responsible to carry it out.
He stresses the public shouldn’t be alarmed when they see an increase of emergency vehicle traffic.
The exact location of the exercise hasn’t been ironed out as of yet.
Favot says there are 30,000 cargos of dangerous goods that pass through town on rail every year, nearly 12-thousand are carrying crude oil.
