Developing partnerships and strategies to deal with a serious shortage of housing across northwestern Ontario.
That’s the purpose of the first ever Northern Housing Summit that begins Tuesday morning in Sioux Lookout.
Hosting Mayor Doug Lawrance says there are major gaps in several areas including social housing, emergency shelters, long term care as well as supportive and transitional housing.
Lawrance notes there is a need for more housing for seniors, students and patients who have to stay in the community for health care.
He adds delegates also want to look at opportunities for additional market purchase and market rental units.
Opening Ceremonies are planned for 9:00am at the Recreation Centre.
