SIU Clears Sioux Lookout OPP Officer

A Provincial Police officer in Sioux Lookout has been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing following a June 2017 incident.

The Special Investigations Unit says the officer acted to ensure the safety of an 18-year-old man in custody.

The SIU says the complainant was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.

The man was lodged in an OPP cell and removed his shirt to put it around his neck.

An investigation found that officers went into the cell to stop the man, when a struggle ensued.

The man suffered injuries as a result of the incident.
