Skilled Trades Plan Released By Province

There continues to be a need for skilled trades training in northwestern Ontario and now the province is taking action to address the shortage.

The Liberal government is unveiling a new apprenticeship strategy to get more people interested in the trades.

Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development Mitzie Hunter says the multi-year plan includes incentives for employers, increased promotion of apprenticeships and attracting more interest from newcomers, Indigenous people and people with disabilities.

Hunter says they need to do everything that they can to prepare people for the jobs of tomorrow, while making life more fair and affordable today.

She notes the strategy was developed with input from industry, labour, school boards and apprentices.

The plan will create better incentives for employers to get more individuals more interested in the trades field.
