Smoking Reduction Program Launched In Northwest

The Tobacco Reduction in Youth Partnership program is back for another year.

Local groups or individuals can submit an idea or project that will help curb smoking in our communities.

The program is aimed at schools and community groups that work with young people, aged 13 to 24 and funding is made available to successful applicants.

Spokesperson Kellie Milani stresses youth smoking rates are higher in northwestern Ontario compared to the rest of Ontario.

Milani says they launched the program to prevent and reduce the use of smoking.

She notes projects that have been supported in the past include ideas such as smoke-free dances as well as smoke-free school challenges.
