Softwood industry leaders in Ontario and others agree the lumber pact
with the U-S is a bad deal, but better than no deal at all.
All eyes are on Ottawa today to see if the deal has enough
support to move ahead.
The Ontario Lumber Manufacturers’ Association says it’s not a good deal
but it’s a deal that some can live with.
N-D-P Leader Howard Hampton says the agreement is “very bad” for
Canada and sets a poor precedent for future trade disputes.
Both Thunder Bay area M-P-P’s, Michael Gravelle and Bill Mauro, are
taking their leads from the lumber companies, saying this is a deal they can
live with.
