The Canadian Lumber Trade Alliance says the Country is getting closer to the end of the Softwood Lumber battle with the United States.
The International Trade Commission agreed to comply with NAFTA which ruled that Canadian Softwood does not pose any threat to the American Lumber industry.
Alliance Spokesperson Carl Grenier says there is still a chance of 1 more challenge.
Grenier says if the challenge is defeated, he expects $3.5 billion in duties collected since 2002 to be returned to Canadian producers.
However, he notes the legal battle likely won’t conclude until next spring and he isn’t ruling out the possibility of a negotiated settlement.
