Crime Stoppers Coordinator and Ontario Provincial Police Constable Jason Discher spoke to the Citizen’s Police Academy in Dryden yesterday about what Crime Stoppers does and how it plays a vital role in solving crime.
When someone calls the hotline, they are never asked any personal information.
Discher says once the caller provides the information, they are given a confidential code number and are supposed to call back within 30-days to see if the tip helped police solve the case.
While numerous tips are submitted, Discher notes that not every single one guarantees a reward, but most of them do and they can reach up to $2,000.
Crime Stoppers began in 1976 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and now there are 1,200 groups world wide.
