A study of sturgeon in Rainy Lake and the Namakan River will continue for another two years.
Researchers have been following the movements of fish implanted with transmitters.
Lakehead University Associate Professor Brian McLaren says they’re focusing on their spawning habitats.
“We’re now focused on the spawning habitat, and what makes the sturgeon go into certain habitats instead of others”.
The Ministry of Natural Resources is aiding in the project.
