It’s good news for the Sunset Country Travel Association.
Executive Director Gerry Cariou is commending the government for proposing to re-instate the spring bear hunt for five years.
Cariou stresses the proposal has the future of bears in the province in mind.
He notes it’s an effective way to manage a healthy black bear population and won’t threat future populations.
Cariou stresses it will also have positive spin-off’s on the northern Ontario economy.
He believes it will have a huge economic impacts as outfitters and lodges can attract non-residents into the region during a slow time of year for tourism.
The proposal was announced Friday and will go through a feedback period before it can be approved.
