The President of the Northwest Energy Association says if a Synfuel Power Plant is built in Thunder Bay, it could spur the development of more electrical generating stations in this region.
Larry Hebert was one of the keynote speakers at the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce meeting in Kenora today.
He says this region has a strong potential to generate electricity.
Hebert says synfuel would create a relatively inexpensive supply of electricity which would not only ensure the viability of existing industry in Northwestern Ontario but would also be an important economic development tool.
He adds if the project gets the go-ahead, a number of similar plants could be set up in communities like Dryden and Red Lake.
