Quite the quest for 10 youth from Sachigo Lake First Nation.
The group is waking to Thunder Bay to raise awareness and funds for the development of a Student Living Centre on the grounds of Confederation College.
Right now they are somewhere near Pickle Lake, and hope to reach their final destination by April 22nd as they walk 60km per day.
Wasaya Group President Tom Kam says the total cost of the Centre is going to be around $18-million and they hope to have it completed by September 2015.
He says once it’s done, it will provide a safe environment for students from remote First Nations who come to Thunder Bay to get their education.
The youth walking are Randell Barkman, Lazio Kaminawash, Kevin Smith, William Ombash, Charmaine Barkman, Genevieve Beardy from Round Lake, Devon Thunder from Muskrat Dam, Karma Barkman, Keyra Barkman and Janessa Barkman.
The group left Sachigo Lake First Nation on April 5th.
