It’s being called a historical protocol agreement in northwestern Ontario.
Cat Lake, Lac Seul and Slate Falls First Nations have entered into a Shared Territory deal.
The agreement will open up economic opportunities within the three territories as well as set a general understanding on several issues including harvesting rights.
The three parties are also hoping the protocol will encourage dialogue with provincial and federal partners.
The agreement is meant to re-establish the concept of shared use.
Kenora MP Bob Nault says the agreement will be instrumental in the relationship between First Nations and the First Mining Corporation in the development of three major deposits in the Sioux Lookout area.
