Two Year Deal For Northern Youth Centre Workers

Unifor say workers at the Northern Youth Centre have a new two year deal.

The union represents 16-employees at the open custody facility near Muriel Lake, along with youth outreach service workers in Dryden and Kenora.

The contract calls for a 2% wage increase in the first year and 1.5% in the second.

There were also improvements in benefits and vacation pay, plus a $100 annual clothing allowance.

Local National representative for Unifor Stephen Boon says workers were pleased to secure solid wage increases and key improvements especially in a sector that’s facing an ongoing shortfall in provincial funding levels.
