Underground Tourist Camps

A Red Lake businessman is calling on the Federal government to investigate the illegal operation of some tourist camps in Northwestern Ontario.
Rick Smit says there are cases of Americans owning multiple dwellings for the use of tourist camps.
However, Smit says they conduct all their business south of the border with American undeclared dollars.
He adds legitimate camp owners as well as local economies are taking a hit as a result.
Smit says if Canada Customs and Revenue targets certain individuals and follows through with some sort of enforcement, he believes it would act as a deterent to others.
