Unifor is denouncing the Harper Conservatives for signing what it calls the “job killing” Trans-Pacific Partnership.
The union says the trade deal will put roughly 20,000 auto jobs at risk, but it also fears about the future of the forest industry.
Local National representative Stephen Boon says they’ve been told once already to trust the government.
Boon notes when the last deal was signed, Buchanan had 9-mills and 50% of lumber production in Ontario and that company saw the loss of thousands of jobs.
Boon calls it a political promo for the Conservatives, noting we won’t see any of the details until after the election campaign.
He adds the current government has done 21-trade deals yet Canada had a $2.5-billion trade deficit last month.
