UPDATE: Sudden Death Investigation In Cat Lake Results In Second Degree Murder Charges

An investigation into the sudden death of two residents in Cat Lake First Nation has resulted in second degree murder charges.

Ontario Provincial Police say 18-year-old Austin Shayne Wesley of Cat Lake First Nation was arrested on Wednesday.

Police then say he was charged with two counts of second degree murder, two counts of uttering threats and one count of assault on Thursday.

OPP say Wesley appeared in provincial court in Kenora on Friday and remains in custody.

Wesley’s next court appearance will be on January 11th. The two victims have been identified as 51-year-old Isaac Gray and 18-year-old Tyrese Shakakeesic, both from Cat Lake First Nation.

The post mortem examinations are being carried out at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora on Friday and Saturday.
