Surprised and disappointed.
That’s the reaction from the Sunset Country Travel Association to this year’s visitor numbers from the United States.
Gerry Cariou says despite an increase in inquiries on-line, they saw a 5 percent decrease in travel from the U.S. border crossings in the region.
“I can’t put my finger on any one factor. I actually expected an increase and Canada overall had an increase in travel from the United States. Our area is a bit of an anomaly and I’m not sure why.”
Cariou says internally, it seemed to be a strong year for Canadians staying home to vacation, thanks in part to the Canada 150 birthday celebrations. (File Photo)
