By a 4-3 margin, Dryden Council agreed to the implementation of water meters by 2010 at Monday night’s Council meeting.
Those who voted in favour believe its critical in the City’s bid to secure funds to replace the aging sewage treatment plant.
Mayor Anne Krassilowsky agrees but says the wording in the resolution that will be sent to the Government may hurt their bid.
Councilor Collins and Wintle also voted against the motion over concerns of the quick time-line and lack of other water conservation programs.
Staff say water meters are widely accepted as the best way to conserve water.
Currently, the Province doesn’t finance water meters which means water users would be responsible for the implementation costs.
