Water, Sewer and User Fees All Going Up

Water and Sewer rates are going up 5% in Dryden starting on July 1st.
Director of Public Works and Engineering Mike Louttit says they can’t run a deficit and notes ongoing work requires a sufficient reserve of funds.
The Waterworks Department is already sitting with a nearly $253,000 surplus.
They are now projecting a $582,000 surplus.
Louttit notes a new rate structure will be introduced late this year due to the introduction of water meters.
Louttit says its to early to know the impact on homeowners and businesses.
The yearly increase has usually been 10%
Meantime, Council has also approved wide-spread user fee increases that will take effect Canada Day.
