Wayne Strachan Named Coach Of The Year For A Record Fifth Time

Fort Frances Lakers bench boss Wayne Strachan continues to add to his trophy case.

Strachan has been named SIJHL Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career.

He guided the Lakers to a franchise-record 46-victories this season.

Fort Frances finished fifth in the national rankings.

Strachan is now the most decorated coach in the league, surpassing the four Coach of the Year awards that Todd Howarth won during his tenure with the Fort William North Stars.

As a player, Strachan won a Dudley-Hewitt Cup with the Thunder Bay Flyers in 1991 as well as two NCAA hockey championships as a member of the Lake Superior State Lakers in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

He has also won two Bill Salonen Cups with the Lakers.

Dryden GM coach Kurt Walsten was also in the running for the award this year.
