Wet Weather Tames Forest Fire Situation

A weekend of cooler temperatures and wet weather has helped quell the forest fire situation in northwestern Ontario.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry reports no new fires since Friday.

Just two fires remain active.

One fire along the Manitoba-Ontario border west of Poplar Hill First Nation is under control after burning 37-hundred hectares.

The other, a small island fire near Pikangikum which has been burning since early May, is being watched, but is poising no problems.
