***4:20 p.m UPDATE: The Sioux Lookout OPP would like to advise that the situation on Birchwood Crescent has been safely resolved.
***Schools have been dismissed and all residents may return to their homes.
Sioux Lookout OPP remain on the scene at Birchwood Crescent and continue to work with nearby schools on a controlled dismissal.
Sioux North High School and Sioux Mountain Public School have been under a ‘Secure School’ mode for much of the afternoon.
Constable Andrea Degagne provides their update.
“The situation is contained. Officers are going to be keeping the schools in secure mode until the situation is resolved, to facilitate the safety of all involved.”
Area residents have been asked to evacuate.
Area residents are asked to wait for contact from police and to not exit through Birchwood Crescent.
Anyone displaced by the evacuation is asked to go to the Recreation Centre, 85 King Street, until further notice.
