Barb Moline (nee Schultz)
After Christmas Eve at home, filled with family, food, laughter and candles, we share the passing of Barbara (Barb) Joyce Moline (nee Schultz, previously Langer) on Christmas Day at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC.
Barb was born in Dryden, Ontario, to Ed and Edna Schultz on May 18, 1949. She was raised in Northwestern Ontario and later moved to other Ontario cities, but had been on the west coast for now just over two decades. She embodied both the hardy, determined spirit of the North as well as the earthy, free-flowing energy of the coast – both knit together with a strong connection to the outdoors.
She was a registered nurse, who after graduating in 1970 from McKellar General Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ontario, had a long and varied career, primarily in Toronto, North Bay, Dryden, and Victoria. Although she enjoyed all areas of care, she found her passion in the mother-babe unit in the Victoria General Hospital, caring for and teaching new moms with their newborns.
Barb had many other interests: she was an avid gardener on both a large and small scale, she played the piano and guitar, drew with pencil, pen, and charcoal and was learning to paint, was a talented knitter, earned a second-degree black belt in Aikido, swam, kayaked, hiked, camped and travelled, and had a love of food – cooking, baking and experimenting. She was an early member of the Cold Water Addicts swim group in Victoria BC, meeting with the group at the breakwater year round, including in the rain and snow.
Barb leaves her husband Bob Moline, daughters Deanna Langer and Christy Langer and their families, step-daughters Kirsten Moline and Lauren Moline and their families, her brother Jim Schultz and his family of four generations, her brother Dave Schultz and his family of three generations, her brother-in-law Peter Ottensmeyer and his family of three generations, and a great number of friends. She was predeceased by her parents, older brother Mark Schultz and later his wife Irene (Rene), and her first husband Dietrich (Diet) Langer.
Barb and her family have been grateful for the incredible love and support from her friends near and far through these past months. There will not be a funeral, but instead her ashes will be scattered at a time when her immediate family is gathered together. If anyone wishes to do so please make a donation to your favourite charity as a remembrance.
